Bihar Declared Naxal-Free After Last Armed Maoist Surrenders in Munger

Bihar has been declared free of Naxal activities following the surrender of the last armed Maoist, Suresh Koda, in Munger. DIG Munger Range Rakesh Kumar stated that no armed Naxalite squad is currently active in any of the 23 districts previously affected by Naxalism.

Munger District Magistrate Nikhil Dhanraj Nippanikar said that Koda will soon receive the prescribed benefits under the Central Government’s surrender and rehabilitation policy. Koda’s wife, Pramila Devi, also expressed relief and happiness over his decision to surrender, saying it has brought peace to the family.

In 2012, 23 districts in Bihar were affected by Naxal activities, with central Bihar witnessing significant Naxalite influence since the 1970s. Sustained efforts by the Central and State Governments have since led to a major decline in Naxal activities. Notably, Bihar reported no Naxalite incidents in 2025, while 220 Naxalites were arrested during the year, marking a significant step toward lasting peace and development in the state.
