Mumbai: Sunita Ahuja has formally withdrawn the divorce petition she filed against her husband, actor Govinda, bringing an end to a two-year legal process that had attracted considerable public attention. The development was confirmed on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, by Govinda’s manager, Shashi Sinha.
Sunita Ahuja Withdraws Divorce Petition
Sunita Ahuja was seen at the Bandra Family Court in Mumbai on Wednesday, accompanied by her son, Yashvardhan Ahuja. Although she did not reveal the purpose of her visit to reporters, she responded humorously when asked about it, saying, “Birthday manane aaye hai” (We have come to celebrate a birthday).
Her legal team subsequently moved to formally withdraw the divorce petition.
Govinda’s manager, Shashi Sinha, confirmed the development while speaking to the media. He said the legal matter had continued for two years but had now come to an end. According to him, there is no separation between the couple and the family has moved past the dispute.
Background of the Divorce Case
Govinda and Sunita Ahuja have been married for nearly four decades. Sunita had reportedly filed for divorce on December 5, 2024, citing allegations of adultery, cruelty and desertion under the Hindu Marriage Act.
The marital dispute became a subject of public discussion following several exchanges between the couple.
Public Allegations
Sunita had publicly commented on Govinda’s professional association with his Roopa co-star, Komal Rani Swarnkar. Her remarks about their age difference and Govinda’s conduct drew significant attention.
Govinda’s Response
Govinda later responded through a social media video, asking Sunita to “stay within her limits” and avoid making comments that could affect his reputation and professional career.
Earlier Signs of Reconciliation
The couple’s relationship had faced public scrutiny for several years. However, signs of a possible reconciliation emerged earlier in June when Govinda appeared on the reality show Lock Upp: Sach Ya Sazaa to welcome Sunita following her eviction.
Family Considers the Matter Closed
Representatives of the family have reportedly expressed disappointment that a private family issue became a matter of public discussion. Shashi Sinha said the family now considers the episode to be in the past.
Govinda has reportedly maintained a neutral position throughout the legal proceedings. Following the withdrawal of the petition, he has not made a formal personal statement regarding the matter.
With Sunita Ahuja withdrawing the divorce petition, the two-year legal chapter has now come to an end, while the family has indicated that it wants to move forward and leave the dispute behind.
